(1) Major diagnostic criteria for EDS classic type include:

  • Skin hyperextensibility
  • Widened atrophic scars
  • Joint hypermobility

(2) Minor diagnostic criteria for EDS classic type include:

  • Smooth, velvety skin
  • Easy bruising
  • Molluscoid pseudotumors
  • Subcutaneous spheroids
  • Complications of joint hypermobility (eg sprains, dislocation/subluxation, pes planus)
  • muscle hypotonia, delayed gross motor development
  • manifestations of tissue extensibility and fragility (eg hiatal hernia, anal prolapse in childhood, cervical insufficiency)
  • surgical complications (postoperative hernias)
  • positive family history
